Wow - look at this stunning creation by Carol Eaton.

 

"I have made a Family Album from the Engraver Collection I bought from you especially for this.

 

I have used only Engraver papers, Prima flowers and embellishments plus a Kaisercraft wooden clock. The Card stock is from ColourCore Elements super assortment I also bought from you.

The base chipboard album is Kaisercraft but I have aged it with paint and ink. The gold filigree is made from using medium paste through stencils made from Spellbinders Parisian Accents, stained and painted then brushed with gold-- hopefully to look liked old book binding. I used a bit of colour on the interior to show up the mono tint papers. tags show where pockets are located..

Some lutradur (atype of fabric) has been sewn on for pockets. The butterfly is a memory box die. Ribbons are various including a hand died seam ribbon. Also used  Tim Holtz Cherish and Believe bronze charms to complete the message with 'Together' from engraver collection.

Blog Competition entry by Dawn Turley

Dawn has sent us a gorgeous card using one of the new Gorjuss stamp sets from Docrafts.

The stamps are sold in various size sets and stamp beautifully. The set Dawn has used is called You Brought Me Love.

First stamp the image onto a card using Archival Ink.

Colour your image with your favourite pens or paints.  Distress markers work well. A tip to use the markers for a more subtle effect and to blend is to scribble on a craft mat with them and pick them up with a water brush.

Dawn has used a distress tool and distress ink to distress her background.

Included in the background is a Spellbinder D'lite die called wrought iron - this is such a sweet design.

Distress paints Background and Tutorial By Sue Butler

Sue was one of our winners on the blog competition for March. She has kindly shared with us how to create the card she won with.

"Hello Everyone.
This is a long post!  But hang in there I think it is worth it.
 I have a wonderful Local Stamp/Scrapbooking Shop called 'Scottie Crafts' and last month they held a competition.... to make a creation using a technique/product from the shop, well I was in for this, as I had just purchased the distress paints and Wendy had demonstrated a technique on how to use them with a 3d Spellbinders Embossabilities.

I did not have the 3d type folder but I did have a m-bossability folder.
The distress paints I used were Frayed Burlap, Salty Ocean, and Broken China.

The first step was to brayer up my folder with these colours.

I dabbed them on my mat side by side, then used my brayer to ink the folder and run it through the e-bosser. 

The result was NOT what I was expecting, I tried again, thinking I used the wrong side but the same thing happened, the paint was not transferring evenly, then I thought perhaps it was because I did not have the 3d Folder.

I gave up on this technique, and instead I used the inked brayer directly on top of the embossed card-stock.  Aha....this is the effect I was looking for.

Next step is to use distress inks .

 

It looks dark here because I took the photo immediately after inking, as you all know it does dry to a lighter shade. 

 

I applied some antique linen distress paint randomly over the Background.

I cut a frame on my cricut and inked up in the same hues, the bird was also inked up using distress stains and glossy accents applied. 

The heart is cut out of corrugated cardboard.

And at last you see the completed card.
You will notice that I did not use the lace in my tutorial, I felt it was too heavy when I looked at the card, so I changed it to this one, which was inked the same way.

First April Entry for the Blog Competition

Denise Allison has sent us what she has made with the Prima Doll stamps.

"I love using my Julie Nutting Stamps and tags...

 

I used Prima Julie Nutting Stamps Tags , and Prima Divine paper along with some prima flowers and crystals to create these beautiful Tags.

 Tip for those that did not have a block to fit stamps on as I didn't I used my. Cuttlebug plates as the block"

An altered box by amanda Bircher for the blog Competition.

I altered a box and saw that Wendy used the new distress paints on metal. I used the paint on the latch and hinges of my box (with a little of the original colour showing through) and I love how it looks! (thanks Wendy!)" Amanda

Shelley has been having lots of fun with the Pinkysil and easycast.

In Shelley's words:

One of my recent purchases was the Pinkysil & Easycast. Today I put aside household chores, grandchildren :-( , & cooking etc etc and went to it 'for me'.

And what a fun time I had. I had spent some time prior sourcing flat bottomed containers and items of interest for casting.- have decided that nothing is flat! So to get started I selected objects from my stash , from a local emporium and from my nieces bead shop in Auckland. Shanks on nice buttons were removed with a sharp craft knife. Items which werent flat bottomed were built/moulded with blue tack - great stuff! Also good for adhering to the moulding container. My biggest challenge was suitable containers with flat bottoms - as mentioned earlier nothing seems flat! I used mini muffin tray, kids plastic building cups,mini bead containers, plastic lids.

Tip - use round not square. Square is not economical.

Tip - Dont use the lovely flat silicone cup cake moulds - silicone on silicone doesnt work so well!

I discovered that the finished mould is easily trimmed with scissors or sharp craft tool, and same for the finished cast.

I discovered that this is such a fun & rewarding exercise.

Next step - colouring - looking forward to that.

Engraver Collection Grandson's Birthday Card I have made this for my grandson Max who is eight and is off to see his other grandmother in England. He tells everyone "he is off to see the world" hence the tag says "Fly- you have all the world" referring to his trip and his growing up!

This is what Pauline has to say:

 "I love using the E-Bosser. I made 50+ small boxes with a die that I recently purchased for you for a wedding reception and put a heart shaped chocolate in each.  I used the free embossing folder to emboss the bottom of the boxes.  The embossed made the whole process soooo much easier and having the A4 size to work with reduced the time significantly. "

Shimmer Sheetz Fun

Love this stuff. It comes in 13 colours and in 2 varieties, iris (which is iridescent) and metallic. It is a mylar plastic which can be embossed, sanded, punched, inked with permanent inks, cut with electronic cutters i.e cricut or eclips, you can stamp on it with permanent ink, it can be heat embossed and die cut with sizzix dies and some of the simpler spellbinders dies. It is acid free and will with stand being washed. The colour is on both sides.
Shimmer Sheetz can be used in all of your scrapbook projects, card making, mixed media, jewellery quilts and clothing. WOW.

Embossed Shimmer Sheetz and sanded. Only sand in one direction to prevent scratching.

Cut two of the Spellbinders Wrought Iron fence and layered them.

Seam binding bow using bow maker. Prima flowers and stamped Spellbinders Venetian Accents S5-118. I have cut the Shimmer Sheetz with Spellbinders Labels eight.

I have embossed this piece with Tim Holtz Texture Fade Sizzix 658251 Leaf Set. Rubbed over the surface with black stazon ink.

For the card on the right I have used this die and stamped my message on it. Love the Spellbinders for tags on my cards.

I cut the Spellbinders Fantastic Flourish Two S2-009 in white card in the end and on the card I used the wax paper as well. I also cut Tim Holtz mover and shaker butterfly from the Shimmer Sheetz

For this card I have stamped an image on the Shimmer Sheetz with versamark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Then with Alcohol blending solution and a water brush I have removed the iridescent coating within the embossing. Kind of like bleaching. Love it.

You can use alcohol inks on ONLY the metallic Shimmer Sheetz and only on one side, the other side will give you a bleach look like the technique above. Do a little test corner to determine which side. Fun.
