"Cherish" Wall Hanging By Kimi

Hi there everyone....hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  I have a project share for you all today.  This is my "Cherish" wall hanging and is a little bit girly and perhaps a lot grungey!  But I love how it all came together and it did so really quickly.

I started off with some corrugated cardboard which I painted with some acrylic paints in Burnt Umber and Black.

I then sponged over some Tim Holtz Adironrack Alcohol ink in Silver Mixative to give that metallic look.  I was after a corrugated iron effect. I also cut my corrugated background into two sections.

Once all this was dry I began layering the papers on. My backing sheet was some scraps from my stash, which I topped with Kasiercraft Basecoat Whitewash.  Wanting to keep within the rustic come grungey theme I distressed all the edges with just a pair of scissors and added Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut stain,

Once I had my papers glued in place I then began creating and gathering all the following supplies to embellish my project:

To create this gorgeous rose I cut out quite a few flowers from the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die.  I have used the smaller rose shape to create the rose.

My heart and key were made from some recycled
cereal board.  I coated this quite thickly with white glue and then heated it with my heat gun to get the texture you see here.

Once I had all of the elements sorted I began gluing
all the different layers into place.

With the Papermania brown string, I soaked it in a solution of diluted white glue which I then wrapped it around a metal crochet hook and then gently on a very very low heat, I heat set it in my oven to form the twists and curls.  Once the twine is dry and set....you set it
aside to cool and the twine then just slides off the metal hook.

I really had a lot of fun creating all the extra elements for this project.  There is nothing I like better than to play and experiment in my craft room....Here are some close ups of everything....I think the Junkyard findings just blend with the grungey look of this hanging so well and added a bit more texture and dimension.

Oh the words...I almost forgot the words....these are just printed off from word and then cut with some fancy edged scissors, lightly inked, again with the Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut stain, which I adhered with double sided foam tape.

I have used an old hanger I  had in my stash from my quilting days.

Thanks so much for stopping by....
Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you all next week....

  3. Hello Kimi
I am with my namesake regarding that string curling technique, it completes the composition of your wall hanging wonderfully. I love the rustic quality you have going on and I happy that it is not too grungy, it appeals to my eye enormously.
