Craft Banner for 1 Year Old's Circus Party

Ruby blowing out the candles on her Circus tent cake at her first birthday party. Some clown holding her.
Shapes cut using Couture Creations nesting dies and Cuttlebug.

First Birthday Banner

Sunday was my daughter’s first birthday party with a circus theme. I had to create something special for her. Every month for the past eleven months of her life I have taken a photo of her with her teddy bear on our old oak, red linen covered armchair. Same bear, same chair, same girl one month older each time. From helpless bemused infant propped in a pillow to feisty, yelling character spilling out of the chair with energy I’ve watched her change. Now I want to celebrate it in a banner.

Craft Banner Tutorial using Nesting Dies

Having never made a banner before I thought I’d do a practice banner. So I started with a four letter banner spelling out her name. Once I got the hang of it and realised how easy the cuttlebug makes it I was brave enough to commit to twelve more scalloped shapes for the backgrounds and twelve circle shapes for the monthly photos. Incidentally now would be a great time to buy a cuttlebug if you don't have one as the Scotties online Mega Mid Summer Madness sale is on till 2/3/2014.

Step One: First I cut out the scalloped circles in American Craft card stock in Rouge using Couture Creations scalloped nesting dies.

Step two: Next I cut out circles of  Die Cuts With a View mat stack  in two alternating  patterns using the Couture Creations plain circle nesting dies in a size smaller than the red scalloped circle. You could also use Spellbinders circle nesting dies. My circus theme colours were red, black, yellow and white so I was looking for anything in those colours in dots and stripes.

Step three: Finally  I stuck on poster letter stickers from my stash to spell out the name. Some that could work nicely are Kaisercraft Hello Sunshine stickers. Then I attached the smaller patterned circle to the red scallop shapes using dimensional tape so they would stand out and have a little dimensionality. Self Adhesive foam squares would be good for this. I used a hole-punch to put two holes in each circle and strung some ribbon through. Easy!

The first half of the banner showing months  1-6.

And voila! My party guests could see a little snapshot progression of my gorgeous little bundle getting bigger. And I found a way to celebrate her birthday through my love of craft.

The second half of the banner showing months 6-10. 11 and 12 not pictured here.

Hey Scruff - Violet Crush Layout - Louise

This week for Scotties I would like to share this layout of my daughter with a photo taken on instagram....

I layered my photo with a selection of the papers linked above and layered some diecuts from the 6x6 Violet Crush pad under the photo. I also diecut a Memory Box Pippi Butterfly from one of the speciality papers in the pad with my cuttlebug and glued in the top corner of my photo.  I cut a border with a border punch to add interest along the bottom edge of the grouping.

Next I cut my title using my cricut and core-diations cardstock.  I ran my letters through an embossing die on my cuttlebug and sanded them back.

Up in the corner I added a small cluster of paper strips and a punched heart to balance the page.

Thanks loads for visiting the blog today, happy scrapping :)

Girls, girls, girls!

I'm back with some more colourful Sassafras Lass inspiration!

They really suit my girly girl photos, and I have had a ball creating with them!

First off a LO where I added some calico. Can't see it? I cut it into a banner shape, and then sprayed some lovely glimmermist on it. Love how it came out!

I also used the amazing Tim Holtz Rosette die - it really is to DIE for! I just added some Sassafras stickers on top. Voila!

On this next LO with my gorgeous girls, I also used calico. I used glimmermist once again, then cut them out in leaf shapes. When dry, I just attacked them with my sewing machine. They work well with those Prima flowers, don't you think?

I used a cuttlebug butterfly die, and added some bling. Love having some sparkle on my pages! I added some dimension on my alphas with dimensional magic.

The mini alphas and the felt comes from my own stash, the rest can be found in the shop!

Hope this gave you some inspiration to be crafty today!

First show and tell from Annelie

Hi readers!

I am so excited to share my first Scottie Craft project with you today! I went to the fabulous crop a couple of Saturdays ago, and actually got a bit done.

I was lucky enough to get some yummy Sassafras Lass papers, alphas & stickers, together with other things in my box. I also got to play with a lovely heart die for my cuttlebug, which suited these papers perfectly!

So, a colourful LO for you:

When I saw the amazing Sassafras Lass metal flowers in the shop I had to get them and add them to my LO. The doily is also from the shop, I just inked it with some orange ink to match my papers.

Be quick to get your own Sassafras stuff from the shop, it's selling fast!

Thanks for visiting today, I will be back soon with another Sassafras Lass LO!

Garden Gala - by Websters Inspiration

I have been creating a few layouts with Websters Pages lately and here is another using the Garden Gala Range.

By doing a lot of fussy cutting with the vellum and papers I created the background to the photo.  I have created the green picket fence using the picket fence punch from Martha Stewart on Jac Paper and then sticking it on the layout.  I have then taken the backing layer of the Jac paper and sprinkled the fence with Martha Stewart Glitter.  The flowers are made with Vellum with a diecut through the cuttlebug.

Thanks for looking
