An altered box by amanda Bircher for the blog Competition.

Here is a lovely entry from Amanda using the distress paints on metal.

"This is my entry for your Wendy's World competition.
I altered a box and saw that Wendy used the new distress paints on metal. I used the paint on the latch and hinges of my box (with a little of the original colour showing through) and I love how it looks! (thanks Wendy!)" Amanda

Thanks Amanda it looks great!

A card by Shelley Bourke

Shelley has been busy - today we are sharing a card by her using Easycast and Alcohol inks.
"I am sending this just to let you know what a 'hoot' I am having with the pinkysil & easy cast - quite addictive! The Owl is one of my first casts and coloured it with Alcohol inks - such a buzz!" Shelley

We love it Shelley it looks awesome thanks for sharing.

Another entry for the blog contest from Shelley Bourke

Shelley has been having lots of fun with the Pinkysil and easycast.
In Shelley's words:
One of my recent purchases was the Pinkysil & Easycast. Today I put aside household chores, grandchildren :-( , & cooking etc etc and went to it 'for me'.
And what a fun time I had. I had spent some time prior sourcing flat bottomed containers and items of interest for casting.- have decided that nothing is flat! So to get started I selected objects from my stash , from a local emporium and from my nieces bead shop in Auckland. Shanks on nice buttons were removed with a sharp craft knife. Items which werent flat bottomed were built/moulded with blue tack - great stuff! Also good for adhering to the moulding container. My biggest challenge was suitable containers with flat bottoms - as mentioned earlier nothing seems flat! I used mini muffin tray, kids plastic building cups, mini bead containers, plastic lids.
Tip - use round not square. Square is not economical.
Tip - Dont use the lovely flat silicone cup cake moulds - silicone on silicone doesnt work so well!
I discovered that the finished mould is easily trimmed with scissors or sharp craft tool, and same for the finished cast.
I discovered that this is such a fun & rewarding exercise.
Next step - colouring - looking forward to that.

Wow Shelley these are amazing and thank you so much for sharing and giving us some tips as well.

Engraver Collection Grandson's Birthday Card I have made this for my grandson Max who is eight and is off to see his other grandmother in England. He tells everyone "he is off to see the world" hence the tag says "Fly- you have all the world" referring to his trip and his growing up!

Blog Competition entry by Paula Carpenter

Paula Carpenter bought an E-bosser recently and has shared with us what she created recently.
This is what Pauline has to say:
"I love using the E-Bosser. I made 50+ small boxes with a die that I recently purchased for you for a wedding reception and put a heart shaped chocolate in each.  I used the free embossing folder to emboss the bottom of the boxes.  The embossed made the whole process soooo much easier and having the A4 size to work with reduced the time significantly. "
Here are her awesome boxes on the tables:
The EBosser is currently on special - see on the website here.

Thanks so much for sharing Paula - the tables looked fantastic!

Thats why we craft together!

The  Scotties Summer Retreat was SO good for our health! See the article after the photo.
(Adrienne was hiding behind the camera!)

Photo: The retreat ended with a bang as we had a couple of earthquakes.

This is Taught at Stanford University

In an evening class at Stanford University the last lecture was on the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends. At first everyone laughed, but he was serious. Women connect with each other differently and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality "girlfriend time" helps us to create more serotonin - a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of wellbeing. Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. We share from our souls with our sisters/mothers, and evidently that is very GOOD for our health. He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym. There's a tendency to think that when we are "exercising" we are doing something good for our bodies, but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged? Not true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking! So every time you hang out to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health! We are indeed very, very lucky. Sooooo let's toast to our friendship with our girlfriends. Evidently it's very good for our health. Forward this to all your girlfriends to stay in touch, just like I just did! Thanks to all the girls in my life who have helped me stay healthy, happy, and feeling very loved.

Shimmer Sheetz Fun
Love this stuff. It comes in 13 colours and in 2 varieties, iris (which is iridescent) and metallic. It is a mylar plastic which can be embossed, sanded, punched, inked with permanent inks, cut with electronic cutters i.e cricut or eclips, you can stamp on it with permanent ink, it can be heat embossed and die cut with sizzix dies and some of the simpler spellbinders dies. It is acid free and will with stand being washed. The colour is on both sides.
Shimmer Sheetz can be used in all of your scrapbook projects, card making, mixed media, jewellery quilts and clothing. WOW.
Embossed Shimmer Sheetz and sanded. Only sand in one direction to prevent scratching.
Cut two of the Spellbinders Wrought Iron fence and layered them.
Seam binding bow using bow maker. Prima flowers and stamped Spellbinders Venetian Accents S5-118. I have cut the Shimmer Sheetz with Spellbinders Labels eight.

I have embossed this piece with Tim Holtz Texture Fade Sizzix 658251 Leaf Set. Rubbed over the surface with black stazon ink.
For the card on the right I have used this die and stamped my message on it. Love the Spellbinders for tags on my cards.

I cut the Spellbinders Fantastic Flourish Two S2-009 in white card in the end and on the card I used the wax paper as well. I also cut Tim Holtz mover and shaker butterfly from the Shimmer Sheetz
For this card I have stamped an image on the Shimmer Sheetz with versamark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Then with Alcohol blending solution and a water brush I have removed the iridescent coating within the embossing. Kind of like bleaching. Love it.

You can use alcohol inks on ONLY the metallic Shimmer Sheetz and only on one side, the other side will give you a bleach look like the technique above. Do a little test corner to determine which side. Fun.

Kays Kaisercraft cupboard Inspiration

Kay has done some wonderful creations for the store in recent weeks.  They are stunning!
Today she is going to share how she created a beautiful storage cupboard by Kaisercraft.
Here are the items used in the project:

The first step is to paint the edges of the pieces of the cupboard.

The next step is cutting and matching the paper for the rear of the cupboard

Marking the arch line to cut the paper to size

Marking the bottom edge of the rear of the cupboard to cut to size

Now ink the edges of the cut pieces other than where it joins in the middle.

Now adhere the paper to the rear of the cupboard

Now measure cut and adhere paper to the sides of the cupboard.
Take note that when covering the internal sides that you will have to snip and remove the paper where there are slots in the cupboard. Also measure and cut papers for the doors of the cupboard.

If you decide to add a little flair and flourish to your doors there are lots of lovely Kaisercraft embellishments available instore. Paint these using matching tones and define edges with ink.

After painting and inking the edges of these glue coordinating paper behind them before adhereing to the doors

When assembling the draws, glue along the edges, then bring the edges together.

Secure edges with elastic or hair bands to keep the edges in place and allow the glue to dry before proceeding to cover the drawers.

Assemble the cupboard using strong adhesive
When assembling is complete place some heavy cans on the cupboard until the glue sets.

The rear view. You can maybe see where I have joined the paper so its worth keeping this in mind when selecting your own paper.
You can see where I added a strip of paper to conceal the join just above the top shelf on the inside where its not noticable

A side view
using some mini hinges I have in my stash -
Kaiser Mini Hinges FL409 could be used.

The finished product - it is quite suprising how many items can fit into the cupboard.

You can see here that I have used kaiser treasures metal label pulls TM806 for the handles which I have placed a coordinating paper inside.

Items that I have used for the kaisercraft storage cupboard
Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish Mini Hinges FL409
Kaisertreasures Metal Label Pulls Brass TM806
Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish Frames FL305 ( Check Out Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish Decorative Door Frames FL529 and , These Would Look Great Also.)
Blending tool with Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Ink Pad
 Craft Medley Premium Craft Glue
Kaisercolour Paint - Sage with White and Cream From My Stash.
        Scissors, Ruler and Pencil

The paper I used a selection from both The Kaisercraft 75cents and Base Coat Range
1x Sixpence P1043 (75 Cents Range) for the internal doors.
1x Penny P1040 (75 Cents Range) for the external doors.
2x Farthing P1041 (75 Cents Range) for the inside rear, draw fronts and inside the wooden flourishes
2x Distressed P1061 (Base Coat Range) for the external rear.
2.5x Weathered P1060 (Base Coat Range) for the internal, external sides and lower plynth.
2x Concrete P1063 (Base Coat Range) for the two inner shelves plus the casing for the draws and the very top shelf, however I painted the undersides.
Papers will be back in stock soon!

I  then used all the pieces of paper left over to cover the inner and outer sides of the draws and their bases.
 Thanks for looking
Kay

Fab Fabscraps!

Have you seen the gorgeous soft designs in the Fabscrap range of papers in store at Scotties? Apart from their own embellishment range, they combine really well with embellies from Docrafts and Prima.

In this layout I have used 2 papers from the Fabscraps range - one as the background and the other, I fussy cut the fairy on the toadstool and used some of the reverse stripes in the banner. All the papers have great designs on the reverse sides. You will want both sides!!
Scotties has lots of the very cute Prima wooden shapes -up to 45 in box!! Great value!
The purple doily dies are the mini Couture Creations Ivy Set of 2. I love little doilies!
The larger doily is a Docrafts stamp, stamped with pink paint onto white cardstock.
This layout is in store and would be an easy one to scraplift!!

Cheers,
Sue :)

Couture Creations Ejection Foam Tutorial

Hello Scottie Crafters,

Maybe you have not seen our recent news about the NEW Couture Creations Blog and that would be a shame not having a look because you might miss something you would like...you never know.
It's better to try and keep an eye on everything.
I just went through the blog and found a tutorial that you might need, in case you use the NEW Couture Creations Ejection Foam you can purchase from our website HERE

Couture Creations Ejection Foam is thin adhesive foam that is attached to dies to help stop cardstock or paper sticking in the dies.

We have had many emails on how to use the ejection foam. Here is a quick tutorial by Kerrie Gurney showing you how easy it is to attach Couture Creations Ejection Foam to our dies.

Peel the backing paper off

place die blade side down on sticky side

place paper back on covering the die, this is to stop the ejection foam sticking to cutting plates.

place foam side up in die cutting machine

run through die cutting machine as you would any die

peel backing paper off and remove excess foam

place die foam side up on diecutting machine cover with cardstock and run through machine

remove excess cardstock

lift off die cut shape

pop out bits

and there you have a die cut without any drama.

Couture Creations recommends you use Couture Creations Ejection Foam in all of our Decorative & Doily Dies.
Tip - If you find the cardstock or paper starting to stick in the die, just add another layer of foam as the foam will flatten with excessive use.
